ABOUT KAI INTEGRATIVE PSYCHIATRY

  • Kai Integrative Psychiatry is a primarily telehealth psychiatric practice founded by Amy Du, PMHNP-BC. We specialize in working with adolescent girls and young women, blending conventional psychiatric care with integrative approaches that address the whole person – mind, body, and spirit.

  • Integrative psychiatry is a patient-centered, holistic approach to mental health that combines conventional psychiatric treatment modalities, such as psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy, with evidenced-informed complementary therapies. Conventional psychiatry typically focuses more on treating the symptoms of mental illness while integrative psychiatry looks at the person as a whole and looks for root causes. These root causes may include nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, inflammation, lifestyle factors, such as sleep, nutrition, relationships, lack of movement, and stress, trauma, environmental factors, and more. The whole person is considered in integrative psychiatry - mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Psychiatric medication, when necessary and appropriate, is an important part of the treatment plan - just not usually the only part.

  • At Kai, care is never one-size-fits-all. We go beyond medication management to look at root causes, including nutrition, sleep, hormones, lifestyle, and emotional history. Our approach is collaborative: we build a plan with you - not just for you.

  • Amy specializes in two primary groups (below), but she is open to seeing patients outside of these groups if deemed a good fit during the initial phone consultation.

    • Adolescent girls (ages 10-17) navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression and/or the pressures of growing up

    • Women (18-25) and mothers managing ADHD, anxiety, depression, and/or trauma-related conditions

SERVICES & APPOINTMENTS

  • The initial evaluation is a deep-dive session (90 minutes) where we get to know you fully: your current struggles, your relationships, lifestyle habits, health history, and any previous care you've received. By the end, you'll have a clear, personalized set of recommendations, which may include medication, lab testing, nutrition guidance, sleep and movement support, supplements, and psychotherapy.

  • Follow-up appointments are where your ongoing care unfolds. In a long follow-up, we check-in on previous recommendations, discuss how medications and/or supplements are working, and continue therapeutic work together. Short follow-ups are more streamlined and focused on medication/intervention review and immediate concerns.

  • Depending on your needs, your care plan may include any combination of:

    • Collaborative medication management

    • Lab testing to identify root-cause contributors (like nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances)

    • Nutritional assessment and coaching

    • Pharmaceutical-grade supplements

    • Supportive psychotherapy

    • Mindfulness and breathwork

    • ADHD coaching and habit formation

    • Parenting and family support

    • Care coordination with your existing providers (PCP, OB-GYN, therapist, and/or school staff)
